Given the elevation of the
proposed pit above the adjacent Arapaho Creek, a direct connection with the regional
ground water system seems minimal. The depth of ground water is not known. If ground
water is encountered, the area will be backfilled with two (2) of pit run or other suitable
material above the potential ground water elevation. Care will be taken to stay at least two
(2) feet above any known or discovered ground water.
In addition, this is a sand and gravel operation and does not expose or produce any toxic or
acid producing materials. No fuel tanks will be on-site or other toxic or acid producing
materials. If fuel or oil spills occur on site in reportable quantities, they will be cleaned up.
(2)(a) If the operation is expected to directly affect surface or ground water
systems, then locate water structures facilities, etc. on Exhibit"C":
No effects to ground or surface water are expected.
(b) Identify all known aquifers:
No aquifers are known. It is unlikely any bore holes or wells have been installed on the
mesa like site.
(c) Provide a plan showing how water from de-watering operations or from
runoff from disturbed areas, stockpiles, and operating surfaces will be managed to
protect against pollution of surface and ground water, both during and after
operations:
There are no dewatering operations associated with this operation. Runoff from
stockpiles will be controlled through seeding topsoil stockpiles as discussed above.
Once the grasses become established, no significant erosion should occur from the topsoil
stockpiles.
The shallow grade of the pit floor will retard runoff. In addition, proposed storm water
Best Management Practices as detailed in the Stormwater Management Plan will protect
surface waters.
In addition, no toxic or hazardous materials will be mined or imported into the site.
36
