LKNESTDN
CONCRETE INC.
July 24, 2024
Hunter Ridley
Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Co. 80203
(303) 866-3567
Hunter.ridley@state.co.us
Ms. Ridley,
Re: Langston Concrete Inc.
Fremont County, Colorado
Amendment Request: M-1992-051
Langston Concrete Inc. would like to request an amendment and technical revision to
permit# M-1992-051 located at 480 South Union Street in Florence, CO. 81226. We would like
to add a wash plant to the existing operation for washing concrete sand. As well as ask for an
increase in the number of max affected acreage at the site (Acreage Revision/Adjustment).
I will address the first request to start with and the latter request further in the following
document.
The first request stems from Langston Concrete Inc.'s business operation growth,
necessity & opportunity. The growth aspect is derived from the addition of a concrete batch plant
at another location within the company and the need for sand to produce redi-mixed concrete.
Currently, we are purchasing sand from a neighboring gravel pit and would like to produce the
product ourselves as the opportunities for redi-mixed concrete operations continue to expand. C-
33 cement sand is a necessary ingredient in redi-mixed concrete and is unable to be produced
without it.
The opportunity to harvest C-33 cement sand out of the existing gravel pit operation
continues to present itself as natural sand deposits in our region diminish. One local sand &
gravel operation has already closed as it was "mined out" and others are whispering the thoughts
of having to create manufactured sand to keep up with regional demand. Becoming another
supplier of sand product will ease the strain on the market while additionally providing an
alternative resource. While we do intend to utilize most of the sand for our own business
operations, we also intend on selling it out of the gravel pit as a new product in addition to the
existing product line we already offer.
Our operation currently harvests aggregate commodities all the way down to 3/8". We
currently consider everything below 3/4" as waste. It is hauled off the screening operation and is
piled for reclamation/backfill. As a current byproduct, the addition of the wash plant will provide
902 South Union Street P.O. Box 279 Florence, Co. 81226 (719) 784-3878 Office (719) 784-1158 Fax
