Technical Revision Juiy 19, 2024
Lakewood Brick and Tile Co.
Church Pit- M-1979-045—TR#5
Lakewood Brick and Tile Company(Lakewood) is submitting this Technical Revision)to propose
changes to the Church Pit Reclamation Plan. Lakewood is proposing that the reclamation plan
for this site be revised from rangeland to lake area.
This is a combination clay and gravel mine in parts of the ESW'i and
W'. SE%i, Section 9, T-2-S, R-70-W 6th PM, Jefferson County. It adjoins
the Burnco Colorado LLC, Rocky Flats Pit, M-1987-113 on the east side.
These mines share an adjoining permit line and when mining ends, their
floor will be connected into on large excavated area. For this reason
a Technical Revision is being filed concurrently with Burnco Colorado
to make this change to both Reclamation Plans.
The existing plan calls for reclaiming the slopes to 3H to 1V and
revegetating the hole left when mining ends to Rangeland/pastureland.
It is a dry mine that gravel is removed from a terrace deposit and the
clay is mined for the underlying formation sited west of the old Rocky
Flats Plant.
This proposed change will not alter the reclamation slopes but will
allow the excavated area to accumulate water from storm events. This
reduces the reclamation required as it eliminates seeding much of the
mine area since the excavated area will be covered by water. The
material has a high clay content that will be ideal for creating the
stable 3h:1V slopes. Currently the water accumulating in the clay
area is discharged into an existing pre 1980 pond on the south side of
the permit area.
No ground water is present at the mine so there will be no impact to
the ground water table or surrounding sub-surface areas. All
stormwater currently falling on the mine is discharged under a
Colorado Department of Health and Environment permit to the surface
within 72 hours or water obtained from another source is released into
a surrounding drainage to cover the evaporative losses associated with
any standing Stormwater. The water currently in the excavated area is
in the pre 1980 pond or was purchased water, stored there for needs at
the mine.
Since ly,
/Li-te.--ra / 77
T mas Mur ay
residen .
