March 17, 2017
Mr. Mark Johnson
Bestway Concrete&Aggregates
301 Centennial Drive
Milliken, Co 80543
RE: North La Poudre Gravel Mine—Lee Amendment—Mitigation Plan for Potential Groundwater
Impacts
Dear Mr. Johnson:
The purpose of this letter is to describe the existing groundwater regime in the vicinity of the proposed North
La Poudre Gravel Mine(Site) and the groundwater impacts that could result from the additional Lee
Property being amended to the existing gravel mine
Existinq Groundwater Conditions
The prevailing groundwater flow direction at the in the vicinity of the Site area is south-southeast toward the
Cache La Poudre River Mining of the area and has been ongoing since the 1980's or earlier. Locally the
groundwater levels and flow directions are influenced by:
Existing Mines and Properties The surrounding properties are;
• Town of Windsor's lined reservoir to the northwest,
• CN LLC unlined water pond to the north,
• Hayden's Property containing an unlined water pond to the north and,
• the Weakland Property to the northeast, which contains a farm building and dryland
• United Water and Sanitation's clay lined Serfer Pond to the west,
• an active gravel mine to the east owned by Bestway Concrete and,
• Central Colorado Water Conservancy District's slurry lined pond to the southeast.
Surface Water, Approximately 1000-feet to the south of the Site is the Cache La Poudre River.
Potential Mining Impacts to Local Groundwater Levels
The proposed mining will directly west of the North La Poudre Mine as shown on the Groundwater Map
Figure.Currently dewatering activates have been ongoing in the North La Poudre and La Poudre Gravel
mines with no negative impacts. A brief summary of the properties surrding the proposed amended site are
presented below.
CN LLC. The current house is approximately 2,000 feet north of the proposed gravel mining area.
The domestic and irrigation wells(Permit#14529-f& 14941-F) are north of the onsite pond,
approximately 200 feet away from the proposed mining area. The existing pond acts as a buffer
form dewatering activities and is a significant distance away from the proposed gravel mining area.
