- c
3.0 Results
3.1 Desktop Resource Assessment
According to the USFWS IPaC Trust Resources Report (USFWS 2023), ten ESA listed or
candidate species were identified as potentially occurring within the Project Area or potentially
affected as a result of Project implementation (Table 1). No Designated Critical Habitat is
mapped within or in the vicinity of the Study Area (USFWS 2023).
Table 1. Federally Listed Species Identified as Potentially Occurring in the Study Area
Common Scientific Name Status' Preliminary Analysis within the Study Areae
Name
Mammals
Preble's Zapus FT Unlikely. Suitable habitat for the species consists of well-
meadow hudsonius developed plains riparian vegetation with adjacent, relatively
jumping preblei undisturbed grassland communities and a nearby water
mouse source. These riparian areas include a relatively dense
combination of grasses, forbs, and shrubs.
Gray Wolf Canis lupus FE Unlikely. Lone, dispersing gray wolves may be present
throughout the state of Colorado. According to the USFWS
IPaC, due to the location of the Study Area, this species
only needs to be considered if the Project includes a
predator management program.
Tricolored Perimyotis PFE Unlikely. In winter, tricolored bats are often found in caves,
bat sublavus abandoned mines, and culverts associated with roads.
During the spring, summer, and fall, tricolored bats are
found in forested habitats where they roost in trees, but may
occasionally utilize human structures for roosting (USFWS
2024). Forested habitats are not found within the Project
area, but oil and gas structures adjacent to the Project Area
may provide potential roosting habitat and individual bats
may forage through the Project Area. However, roosting
habitat will not be removed as a result of the Project
because Project disturbance will remain 100 feet from
existing oil and gas structures.
Birds
Eastern Laterallus FT Unlikely. The species is known to occur in Weld County as
black rail jamaicensis ssp. a year-round resident. Suitable nesting, migrating, and
jamaicensis wintering habitat for the species consists of marshes and
wet meadows including riparian marshes, coastal prairies,
saltmarshes, and impounded wetlands.
Piping Charadrius FT None. The Project Area is located within the Upper South
plover melodus Platte River Basin. Based on the USFWS IPaC Report, this
species is only required for consideration if water-related
activities or use would occur within the North Platte, South
Platte, or Laramie River basins.
Colorado Sand Company LLC—Kersey Mine May 2024
Special Status Species and Habitat Assessment Report 3
