Permit M-1977-493—Climax Mine Technical Revision 37 (TR-37)
Exhibit I - Appendix A — Soil Map Unit Descriptions
Map units in the 100's -- landscapes associated with fluvial and or lacustrine deposits
processes: Landforms include: valley bottoms, flood plains, high elevation basins near cirque
headwalls, and depression areas with no drainage ways. These map units support both forest
and rangeland plant communities that are commonly associated with aquatic ecosystems.
Map units in the 200's -- landscapes influenced by glacial processes. The soils developed in
unconsolidated deposits at the mid to upper elevation zones. Landforms include: U-shaped
valleys, hanging valleys, lateral moraines and recessional moraine/outwash plains. These map
units support both forest and rangeland plant communities.
Map units in the 300 and 400's --landscapes dominantly from mixed sedimentary rock sources.
Landforms associated with the 300's and 400's include both high and low relief mountain slopes,
hogbacks and plateaus. These map units support both forest and rangeland plant communities.
Map units in the 600's -- landscapes on metamorphic (crystalline) rock sources. Landforms
associated with the 600's are predominately mountain slopes. These map units support both
forest and rangeland plant communities.
Map units in the 900's -- high elevation landscapes representing the upper subalpine and alpine
zones. Landforms associated with the 900's include: summits, cirque headwalls, high elevation
basins, aretes, and ridge and summit complexes. These map units support both alpine turf and
meadow, fellfield, snowfield, and wetland plant communities.
Exhibit I —Appendix A I-A-1 March 2024
