Eyre soils are on mountain sides and have slopes of 5 to 60 percent. The average
annual precipitation is about 20 inches and the average annual air temperature is about 38
degrees F.
Reference Pedon:
A representative pedon of this soil occurs in map unit 346C supporting aspen/Thurber fescue
plant association on a 75 percent west southwest facing back slope at 9,100 feet elevation
located in the SW 1/4, SE 1/4, sec. 23 , T. 4 S., R. 82 W., in Eagle County, Colorado. Taxonomic
class: Loamy-skeletal, mixed Lithic Cryoborolls
Oi -- 1 to 0 inches; undecomposed grass litter; abrupt clear boundary.
Al -- 0 to 5 inches; gravelly loam, dark reddish brown (5YR 3/2) moist; weak fine subangular
blocky structure parting to weak fine granular; very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; many very
fine and fine roots; many fine interstitial pores; 18 percent sandstone rock fragments; slightly
alkaline; clear smooth boundary.
A2 -- 5 to 12 inches; very gravelly loam, dark reddish brown (5YR 3/3) moist; weak fine
subangular blocky structure parting to weak fine granular; very friable, slightly sticky,
nonplastic; common very fine and many fine roots; many fine interstitial pores; 40 percent
sandstone rock fragments; neutral; clear wavy boundary.
Bw -- 12 to 17 inches; extremely cobbly fine sandy clay loam, red (2.5YR 4/6) moist; weak fine
and medium subangular blocky structure; very friable, slightly sticky, nonplastic; few very fine
and common fine roots; many very fine interstitial pores; 70 percent sandstone rock
fragments; neutral; abrupt smooth boundary.
R -- 17 inches; hard red sandstone
Gateview Family
The Gateview series consists of very deep, well to somewhat excessively drained soils that
formed in alluvial or colluvial material from sedimentary rocks and glacial materials of mixed
origin. Gateview soils are on outwash terraces, toeslopes, alluvial fans, till plains, kames, esters,
mountains, and low ridges. Slopes are 2 to 40 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 20
inches and the mean annual temperature is about 36 degrees F.
Representative Pedon:
A representative pedon of this soil is located in Gunnison County, Colorado; two miles south of
Crested Butte, Colorado, in Sec. 12, T. 14 S., R. 85 W. Taxonomic Class: Loamy-skeletal,
mixed, superactive Pachic Haplocryolls
Al -- 0 to 9 inches; dark brown (10YR 4/3) gravelly sandy loam, very dark brown (10YR 2/2)
moist; moderate fine granular structure; slightly hard, very friable, non-sticky, non-plastic; many
fine and very fine, few medium roots; many fine and very fine interstitial pores; 20 percent gravel;
medium acid (pH 5.9); gradual wavy boundary
Exhibit I —Appendix A I-A-45 March 2024
