Wild Horse Dams and Reservoir West Test Quarry DRMS 111 Application
comprising 40 and 80 percent of the finished soil. The surface of the growth medium will have between 20 and
60 percent cover of rocks averaging 3 to 12 inches in longest dimension.
4.1.2 Amendments and Mulch
The Operator or a qualified subcontractor will test the growth medium before placement to determine the
appropriate amendments for that specific portion of reclaimed slope. Soil tests will be performed at intervals as
appropriate to represent soil conditions.Tests will measure micronutrients and macronutrients including nitrogen,
phosphorus, and potassium. The Operator may apply additional soil amendments to facilitate soil-water retention,
nutrient retention, and other deficiencies found during soil testing.
4.1.3 Seed Mixes
The Operator will consult with a qualified reclamation specialist to update the reclamation seed mix.The seed mix
will include species native to the reclamation area which have aesthetic value, provide structure with some forbs
and shrubs, and are palatable as browse or graze vegetation to establish long-term habitat for horses, deer,
antelope, and other native wildlife. If any species are not commercially available at the time of planting, appropriate
alternates will be substituted as recommended by a qualified reclamation specialist. Substitutions will be made
based on the rate per square foot (not per pound).
Table 4-1 presents two (2) potential seed mix options and application rate where PLS = Pure Live Seed. Seeding
will be done in September-December of each seeding year. Irrigation is not necessary for successful native
vegetation establishment. The seed mix will not be allowed to contain more than 0.5%weed seed.
Table 4-1: Seed Mix and Application Rate
Species Rate
(Option A) (%PLS +/- 5%)
Bromegrass Smooth 20
Intermediate Wheatgrass 20
Orchardgrass 15
Wildrye Dahurian 15
Slender Wheatgrass 10
Crested Wheatgrass 10
Ryegrass Perennial 10
Species Rate
(Option B) (% PLS +/- 5%)
Streambank Wheatgrass 20
Annual Ryegrass 20
Thickspike Wheatgrass 20
Mountain Brome 15
rSiberian Wheatgrass 15
Green Needlegrass 10
SEED MIXTURE TOTALS Minimum 95%Total
(Either Option)
Tetra Tech May 2024 21
