Coors Energy Company Keenesburg Mine—Phase 11/III Bond Release Application
Sedimentology Demonstration
such controls. Therefore, for the purposes of our comparison, a value of unity(one) will be
assigned this factor, rendering no impact to our calculations.
3 RUSLE Calculation Results
RUSLE factors, their respective values, and sediment yield calculation results for
Reclamation Area 30 using vegetation data from both 2021 and 2022 are summarized in
Table 3. The table contains values for reclaimed and undisturbed conditions for the cross-
section shown in Figure 1.
The projected mean sediment yield from the Reclamation Area is 0.049 tons/acre/year, with
a range of 0.045 to 0.053 tons/acre/year across both years. Projected mean sediment yield
from the undisturbed condition is 0.079 tons/acre/year. For both years, sediment yield for
reclaimed condition was less than the yield for undisturbed condition.
Table 3: RUSLE Calculation Results Summary
Reclaimed Conditions
A
Location R K LS C P (Tons/ac/yr)
A-A' 2021 56.6 0.11 0.654 0.013 1 0.053
A-A' 2022 56.6 0.11 0.654 0.011 1 0.045
Reclaimed Conditions Average 0.049
Undisturbed Conditions
A
Location R K LS C P (Tons/ac/yr)
A-A' Undisturbed 56.6 0.10 0.388 0.036 1 0.079
Undisturbed Conditions Average 0.079
4 Conclusions
The results of the RUSLE calculations demonstrate that Reclamation Area 30 is projected to
produce less sediment than would be produced in its undisturbed condition. Based on RUSLE
results, Reclamation Area 30 at the Keenesburg Mine now satisfies Phase II bond release criteria
for sedimentology.
5 References
Agricultural Research Service. 2004.
