The recoverable Wadge Seam reserves will be mined out, and production is expected to transition to the new Sage
Creek Portal. The estimated remaining mine life (reference date 01/13) will range from 3 to 5 years. The actual mine
life is subject to extension or reduction in case of either very weak or strong coal markets, resulting in reduced or
increased yearly production, and identification of any additional economically recoverable reserves.
Productivity estimates were based on expected mining conditions and analysis of productivities at other western
U.S. mines. It is expected that gradient and water inflows will significantly reduce down -dip development
productivities. It is assumed that four to six continuous miners and a high-capacity longwall will be required to
reach maximum yearly production. Continuous miner productivities would vary from 200,000 to 325,000 tons per
year per unit, depending on location. Longwall productivity is expected to be approximately 6,000,000-11,000,000
tons per year, dependent on mining conditions.
Labor Force
The Foidel Creek Mine Labor force schedule is shown in Table 47, Labor Force Schedule. The total employee
numbers increase from an estimated 47 in 1983, for a one -section mine, to approximately 500, at full production.
The current work force is approximately 470 people (2012).
Mining Equipment
The Foidel Creek Mine will use standard mining methods and equipment commonly used in the western U.S. coal
industry.
A longwall section will contain the following representative list of equipment:
155 Shield Roof Supports
Armored Face Conveyor
Shearer
Stage -Loader
Electrics
Hydraulic System
Miscellaneous Pumps and Tools
A typical continuous miner section will contain the following equipment:
Continuous Miner
Shuttle Cars
Roof Bolter
Feeder -Breaker
Electrical Load Center
Mantrip Vehicle(s)
LHD Scoop
Parts Car
Continuous Haulage System
Rock Duster
Miscellaneous Pumps and Tools
The following types of utility and support equipment will be utilized in the Foidel Creek Mine (both underground
and surface):
Mine Ventilation System
Electrical Distribution System
Production Water Supply System
Conveyor Systems
RN 12-06 2.05-10 04/01/13
