GBEA Wagner Pit#M2023038,Owner&Operator:Twin Buttes Land Co LLC 04/10/2024,Page 45 of 65 <br /> Re-Vegetation (c) <br /> Soil Thickness(i) <br /> The thickness of soil , a soil normally thought of as a top soil, will be placed over the top <br /> of sub-soil or overburden at a minimum thickness of 4 inches; if quantities are sufficient <br /> some area will be deeper. The bedrock that is exposed above the High Wall may never <br /> be covered or reclaimed. <br /> Timing,Seedbed Preparation,Soil Amendments(ii) <br /> When the operator determines that an area will no longer be mined, within a year the <br /> process of reclaiming will begin. Thus, reclamation will proceed incrementally, or in <br /> small areas of the pit, with an acre or less being the norm, but not excluding the <br /> possibility of larger areas. The process or series of events are as follows: <br /> 1. A determination that an area will no longer be utilized for mining or pit <br /> operations. <br /> 2. Designing a reclamation plan for that portion of the pit that includes: <br /> > Waterway placement and erosion prevention. One Rock Dams <br /> (ORDs) are excellent erosion control. See Sponholtz, 2015, and <br /> Hare, 2021. <br /> > Determine how best to use the existing materials close at hand (e.g. <br /> rock for waterways and one rock dams). <br /> ➢ Determine best seed mix for that particular location, north slope or <br /> south slope (see below) and source the seed mix. <br /> ➢ Determine how best to utilize the overburden and soil that may be in <br /> short supply. <br /> 3. Begin earthwork and contouring. <br /> ➢ If areas are compacted and soil impermeable, rip to a depth no less <br /> than 12 inches, keeping in mind that some location will have <br /> limitations due to bed rock. <br /> 4. There will be no application of fertilizer. <br /> 5. Once earthwork is finalized and waterways in place, as needed, and the surface <br /> suitable for seeding, seeding should take place from late October through the <br /> very early spring. <br /> Seed Mix(iii) <br /> Seed mixes and seeding rates used the Intermountain Planting Guide (Jensen) as a <br /> starting point. The pit has three distinct areas of exposure and land form that will <br /> influence the plant species that are suitable for planting. The three distinctions: <br /> 1. A flat that surrounds the pit. This area receives runoff from the hill. (Alkali Flat). <br /> 2. The south facing slope of the hill. Soil is thin and water retention is poor. <br /> (Mountain Pinyon &Sagebrush) <br /> 3. The north facing slope of the hill. Soil is sufficient and with the north facing <br /> exposure water retention is generally excellent. (Mountain Pinyon & <br /> Sagebrush). <br /> The mixes were selected with the exposure of the pit, drought tolerance, and livestock <br /> grazing as three overall objectives, plus the selected species would compliment the <br /> surrounding ranch land and uses.
