GBEA Wagner Pit#M2023038,Owner&Operator:Twin Buttes Land Co LLC 04/10/2024,Page 10 of 65
Site Description, Exhibit B
The description of the site will address soil, plant community and vegetation, man-made
structures, water resources, and wildlife. Small maps pertaining to specific topics will be
included and master maps can be found in the Map Exhibit E.
Soil and Vegetation (a)
Soil
The pit straddles two soil types and are in keeping with the distribution of the parent
material as shown in the geology. Map B-1 displays the soil spatial distribution at a
much finer scale than the original NRCS maps. One should keep this is mind when
interpreting the spatial distribution of the soil. See Appendix B for a complete soil
description.
Blazon, Map Symbol 10(Map B-1)
Land forms are ridges with slopes upwards of 40%. This comprises 50%of the area with
Rentsac 35% and minor components at 15%. The Rentsac is a very channery loam, 0 to
5 inches, a very channery clay loam 5 to 16 inches and then an unweathered bedrock
begins at 16 inches. Slopes for the Rentsac are upwards of 65%. The two soils are
intermingled spatially and it is not practical to map them separately.
The ecological site is Mountain Pinyon for the Blazon and Upland Shallow Stony Loam
for the Rentsac (Bonneville Big Sagebrush).
Both soil types are well drained, with high run off
Tisworth, Map Symbol 89(Map B-1)
Land forms are fans and valley floors with slopes up to 5%. The parent material is high
content gypsum and alkaline salt alluvium derived from sedimentary rock. Within 4
inches of the surface it is a sandy loam, 4 to 11 a clay loam, and 11 to 60 a gravelly loam.
The ecological site is Alkali Flat(greasewood).
It is well drained, with medium run off.
Current Pit Soil Condition
The 1964, Texas Mountain, USGS topographical map, 1:24,000, has a gravel pit marked
at the Wagner pit location. With a minimum of 60 years of mining history, the original
soil at the location has been extensively disturbed. Some locations have recovered with
mature vegetation and the soil is relatively healthy, while others areas are "raw". There
are no apparent stock piles of soil that have been harvested in the past for future usage.
This lack of healthy soil will be a concern in future reclamation and seeding. The
reclamation plan will address this issue.
