This form is not intended for reporting of possible violations or illegal activity. Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative *
I do not support the use of cyanide for mitigation purposes in Lake County. I object to this application due to
several potential threats this project poses to the health and safety of the people, environment, and future of
Lake County if this project is permitted to go forward. These objections include:
(1) The use of cyanide in processing tailings: Cyanide mining poses a significant threat to the environment,
including the air, water, and soil. Cyanide spills and leaks can contaminate water sources and harm aquatic life,
and the long-term impacts of cyanide mining can be devastating and irreversible, including the contamination of
water sources, destruction of habitats, and harm to public health. The short-term economic benefits of cyanide
mining do not outweigh the long-term costs to the environment and community;
(2) The threat of leakage into water table of cyanide/other chemicals into groundwater, affecting nearby wells,
fishing/rafting industry, irrigation water;
(3)The disturbance of and transport of tailings from East Side of Leadville to Mill site: impacting traffic patterns
and the health risks associated with airborne toxic particulates ("fugitive dust");
(4) The gross overuse of water for tailings processing system;
(5) The project site is too close to adjacent property residential wells.
Thank you for considering the environmental impacts of this project.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M1977999, M1999777UG or C1981201.
M1990057
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
