This form is not intended for reporting of possible violations or illegal activity. Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative *
I am writing to oppose this project. I am a lifelong resident of Lake County and have seen first hand and have
been impacted directly from the previous contamination in our community. The existing contamination is so high
in fact that the Lake County Government had to cancel their plans to develop land for affordable housing in the
East of town, the side that tailings will be transported from, due to unprecedented lead contamination. This
clearly shows despite not being a superfund site anymore, we have a long way to go to clean up the
environmental mess that was left by mining in our community. As a City Council member of Leadville I cannot in
good conscience allow our community to have to go through the same experience if one thing goes wrong. The
company has not presented the community with an impact study of their project. We are currently unaware of
the damages to the road their transportation of not only the tailings but the water will have on our roads. We are
unaware of the impact the removal of the tailings will have on the surrounding area and the water flow of the
proposed tailing removal area. We are completely unaware of the contamination that will be caused from driving
the trucks full of tailings through town. We are unaware of what will happen to the mobile home park of Lake
Fork which is less than a mile downstream of the proposed mill if there is a worst case scenario and there is
leak. There are no plans to have emergency notices go out in Spanish and the mobile home park residents are
predominantly Latino/Hispanic families many of whom do not speak English. The company has not done their
due diligence to inform us of any of this despite us constantly bringing it up to them and it is incredibly
concerning since this project has been in the works for well over 3 years. We cannot in good conscience allow
this project to go through without much more information and planning done by the company. Thank you for
your time.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M1977999, M1999777UG or C1981201.
M1990057
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permit Type
