This form is not intended for reporting of possible violations or illegal activity. Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative *
As a Lake County resident and the Executive Director of Cloud City Conservation Center I do not support the
proposal from CJK Milling and the risk their operation poses to our community. According to the Climate and
Economic Justice Screening Tool Lake County is considered disadvantaged when it comes to climate change,
legacy pollution and energy. As a rural and low income community the majority of our residents already face
significant barriers to health, which is one of the reasons Lake County ranks 25th out of 59 Colorado counties
by the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps. Our community is a former EPA superfund site and much of our
soil still has high levels of lead, radon and other heavy metals from our mining era. According to the EPA,
populations within three miles of Superfund sites are more low-income and are more burdened by other
environmental stressors when compared to the general population. Lake County is EPA Radon Zone 1, the
highest potential for having Radon, the second -leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Lake County
residents reported higher rates of diabetes, obesity, frequent physical distress and frequent mental distress than
Colorado as a whole. Why should our community continue to risk our health & wellbeing so that mining
companies can continue to profit off of us? This operation will expose our community to innumerable risks from
trucking cyanide through our streets, the exposure of toxic dust from the mining operation and open topped
trucks driving through town, the physical damage to our roads that our community already cannot afford to
maintain, the risk to our water and the residents who live directly next to the proposed processing site. Our
community has spent decades trying to recover from the damage mining has done to our environment and our
health. We are not worth the potential profit this company stands to make off of us.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M1977999, M1999777UG or C1981201.
M1990057
I
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permit Type
