This form is not intended for reporting of possible violations or illegal activity. Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative *
The Arkansas River turned red in the 1980s due to heavy metal contamination from Leadville, Colorado's
mines, mills, and smelters. But after decades of intense clean-up efforts, the river is finally healthy again.
I object to this application because the impact on the upper Arkansas River basin, and particularly the Leadville
area, is significant. I am especially concerned about the risk of cyanide contaminating surface and groundwater
The potential for environmental catastrophe is just too high to allow this project to move forward.
Allowing a corporation to reopen the old Leadville Mill and expand it to extract gold with an open vat "cyanide
leaching" process would endanger the Arkansas River ecosystem and surrounding communities by
contaminating the water with dangerous chemicals. The Arkansas River was heavily contaminated once; it took
years for the river to recover. Please don't make the same mistake again. The communities on the Arkansas
River deserve better than this.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M1977999, M1999777UG or C1981201
M1990057
Permitting Action Type
Permit Revision
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permitting Action Sequence
0000
Permit Type
Mill
