Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative
I strongly object to the CJK Milling group's THIRD attempt to obtain a state permit to reopen the old Leadville
Mill and use cyanide to process old mine waste piles. These currently stable piles would be dug up and
transported by truck from our historic mining district to the mill site in Stringtown. There are obvious
environmental threats which this scheme will impose upon our community, the least of which includes noise and
air pollution from dust and diesel with as many as 80 dump truck trips per day passing through town, operating
seven days a week,year-round.
This county has been under siege by CJK milling and their attempts to profit from gold extraction at the expense
of our residents.
Over the past several decades, countless hours of work and millions of dollars have been spent on repairing the
devastating impacts of historic mining in Lake County on the Upper Arkansas River and its tributaries,
particularly in the California Gulch watershed where the Leadville Mill and much of the targeted waste is
located. As a result, the Upper Arkansas is now the longest continuous stretch of Gold Medal water in the
nation.
To this day,our horses have heavy metal poisoning from fugitive particulate emissions in our soil. From those
very piles they want to extract. Mining is a perpetual hazard, no matter how CJK wants to convince us it is safe.
It has been and will always be hazardous to the welfare of the communities that are in the way.
Please listen to the residents of this county and reject the CJK Mill application.
We should have a say in our community and we say no.
So do our horses, who's heavy metal contamination has been confirmed by lab tests. That would Arsenic,
Cadmium,Chromium,Aluminum, Lead etc. I would be happy to share those results if you would like to see
them.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M1977999, M1999777UG or C1981201.
M1990057
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
