Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative
After decades and millions(billions?)of dollars to clean up Leadville/Lake County after the mining boom in the
late 1800's/early 1900, Leadville/Lake County is a vibrant and clean community. Leadville/Lake County has
clean air, gold medal waters to fish in,stable mining waste piles and a healthy population. Its a safe place for
our families and a welcoming retreat for our guests.WHY would you want to jeopardize our future for the profit
of others? The moving of slag piles will undoubtedly impact our air quality, not just around the sites but through
town. The movement of waste material in heavy trucks will cause more traffic, road hazzards, and wear and
tear on already pot-holled roads through town. The use of cyanide to treat the waste is introducing a highly toxic
and deadly element into our community, and if there were a spill or seepage, could pollute our water system
and rivers. With no benefit to the community or our future, and the potential to significantly harm our health and
well-being,WHY would you approve this permit? After decades of dealing with the aftermath of this type of
mining,we have learned our lesson. We want Leadville/Lake County to be in the news for the right reasons, not
be added to the list of cities and towns in America that no longer have safe drinking water and are highly
polluted.
