• If the range vegetation is seriously deteriorated, seeding is needed.
The main limitations for seeding are slopes greater than 15 percent which
may require broadcast seeding. Suitable seeding mirturies can Include
western wheatgrass, bluebunch wheatgrass, and crested wheatgrass. There may
be some difficulty in obtaining seed for some or all of these species.
Successful seedings can be expected only in years of nbove normal
precipitation. Seeding late in fall helps to insure that the content of
moisture in the soil will be adequate for the establishment of seedlings
next spring. For successful seedings, a seedbed should be prepared and the
seeds drilled. The plants selected for seeding should meet the seasonal
' requirements of livestock or wildlife, or both.
Brush management improves deteriorated areas of range that are producing
more woody shrubs flan were present, in the potential plant rnmmunlty.
• Slope limits access by livestock amT results in overgrazing of the less
sloping areas. Management practices suitable for use on this unit are
proper grazing use and a planned grazing system.
This mapping unit is in capability subclass Vie. It is in Clayey
Foothills range site.
•
-23-
