EXHIBIT B- SITE DESCRIPTION
(6.3.2)
(a) The affected land - Per USDA Soil Conservation Service
Rofork
The majority of the permit area is reported to be Rofork very gravelly sandy loam that
supports slopes from 5 to 55 percent. The unit occurs between an elevation of 8,100 to
10,000 feet, and is not considered prime farmland. The soil is composed of slope
alluvium derived from granite and gneiss over residuum weathered from granite and
gneiss. The soil profile consists of Al - 0 to 5 inches: very gravelly sandy loam,A2 - 5
to 9 inches: extremely gravelly sandy loam,AC- 9 to 14 inches: extremely gravelly
coarse sand, and below 14 inches generally bedrock. At this site, the thickness of the C
horizon may be several tens of feet. The frequency of flooding is reported to be none,
and the frequency of ponding is also reported as none.
Adderton-Platdon association
The south and southeastern edges are made up of Adderton-Platdon association and occur
generally on 0 to 6 percent slopes at elevations of 8,000 to 10,200 feet. The unit does
not produce prime farmland, and in the general area is composed of similar materials as
contained in the Rofork unit. Adderton unit is described as occurring on flood plains,
and the Platdon unit is located in areas not generally subject to ponding or flooding.
Thus, the unit located within the permit boundary can be considered to be Platdon. The
soil profile consists of A - 0 to 8 inches: loam,Ag - 8 to 18 inches: loam, Cgl - 18 to 30
inches: very gravelly sandy clay loam, and 2Cg2 - 30 to 60 inches: extremely gravelly
sand. It is generally located on slopes of 0 to 3 percent within poorly drained areas, and
flooding is rare to none, and does not pond.
Both units are poorly suitable for tilling and make only marginal pasture land.
(b) The permit area was first staked for its mineral value, but has been used to pasture cattle
both before and after patent. There are no structures located on the site, no evidence that
any structures have ever existed on the site, nor are there any structures located within
200 feet of the permit area including powerlines and fencing.
(c) The permit area is located on a low hillside the generally slopes south toward a small dry
gulch. There are no streams, springs, lakes, stock water ponds, ditches, or reservoirs,
within the permit area, and no active streams that would receive any increased drainage
caused directly by the leveling of the affected area. There is no regularly defined aquifer
within the permit area, and subsurface waters are limited to and directed by cracks and
fractures within the underlying granites and other Precambrian metamorphic rock units.
(d) Wildlife has been unrestrained to roam across the property, and the leveling of a portion
