New Horizon Mine
Adjoining Surface Landowner Notification Letters
Nancy Lee Enstrom Life Estate MT Place LLC
P.O. Box 354 P.O. Box 82
Nucla, Colorado 81424 Nucla, Colorado 81424
Wounded Knee, LLC
P.O. Box 555
Nucla, CO 81424
III. Summary of Reclamation and Management
A. General Description
As shown on Map 1, 85.5 acres are requested for Phase I bond release. Final backfilling and
grading (including topsoil replacement and seeding) occurred in 2023. The bond release areas
are comprised of two distinct parcels split by a permanent road.
The work completed for both bond release parcels included backfilling and final grading to the to
the approved post mine topography (PMT). Topsoil and seeding also occurred during final
grading activities.
The bond release areas have been regraded for the most part consistent with the approved post-
mining topography. Please refer to Map 2.05.4-1 in Permit No. C-1981-008. However, as
shown on the comparison profiles for the final backfilled surface and the approved PMT on Map
2, the final surface has some deviation from approved PMT in the drainage locations.
This occurred due to an excess of Bench I and topsoil onsite for the final reclamation of the
mine. To ensure all Bench I and topsoil was utilized completely during the final reclamation of
the mine, it was determined that the excess would be place in the drainages to shallow up the
overall grades of slopes entering the drainages and the thalweg of each respective drainage. The
final surface created is flatter, a more erosional stable surface, and also allowed New Horizon to
fully consume remaining Bench I and topsoil stockpiles onsite to support final closure of the
mine.
SL-27 Phase I Bond Release Page 3
