MINE CLOSURES
Feature ID: 455
Type of Feature: Shaft
Excavated Dimension: 30ft by 20ft
Eroded Dimension: 32ft by 25ft
Construction Dimension: 32ft by 25ft
Mine Dump Volume: 2,500cy
Condition: Collapsed
Lining: Rock
Depth of Opening: 200+ft
Depth to Plug: 25ft
Depth to Bedrock: 25'ft
Shape of Opening: Irregular
Surface Material: Waste Rock
Drainage Present: No
Drainage Defined: N/A
Access Deterrent: None
Closure Method: Monolithic Plug Closure, per SWS 7
Work Description: Install a monolithic plug closure in accordance with Standard Work
Specification 7. This specification has been modified to utilize local materials. Large
concrete piers and rubble located nearby will be used as rockfill. The cost for loading and
transporting the concrete rubble to the work site will be covered under Item 4.0.
The concrete rubble shall be installed in the bottom of the opening to a thickness of
roughly five (5) feet or as directed by the PROJECT MANAGER. Rubble shall be placed
in a manner so that units are interlocked and forms a generally flat top. Concrete
(4,500psi) will then be placed on top of the rockfill to a thickness of roughly four (4) feet.
The concrete shall be thoroughly compacted using a suitable mechanical vibrator to
ensure sufficient distribution within the rockfill. Once the concrete has cured, the
remaining depth will be backfilled to the surface with general fill and mounded to ensure
positive drainage. Fill material is not available on site and must be transported by the
CONTRACTOR. The cost for backfilling should be included in this Bid Item. The cost for
loading and transporting fill material will be covered under Item 5.0.
The safety fence and barriers must be replaced around the opening at the end of each
work day for safety and security. Upon completion, the safety fencing and posts shall be
retained for collection by PROJECT MANAGER unless otherwise directed.
Up to one hundred and fifty (150) cubic yards of rockfill and (80) cubic yards of 4,500psi
concrete is required for this closure.
Rev. 07/07/2023
