Buddy System <br /> Workers will conduct all site activities with a buddy who is able to: <br /> 18 <br /> • Provide his or her partner with assistance. <br /> • Maintain visual contact to observe partner for signs of chemical or heat exposure. <br /> • Periodically check the integrity of his or her partner's protective clothing. <br /> • Notify the site supervisor if emergency help is needed. <br /> Prearrange hand signals or other emergency communication signals such as: <br /> Signal Meaning <br /> • Hand gripping throat: out of air, can't breathe. <br /> • Gripping partner's wrist or placing both hands around waist: leave area immediately <br /> • Hands on top of head: need assistance <br /> • Thumbs up: okay, I'm alright, I understand. <br /> • Thumbs down: no, negative. <br /> •Arms waving upright: send backup support. <br /> Spill Control <br /> Notification of Spills and Discharges. If a spill occurs and humans or the environment are <br /> threatened, contractor personnel will immediately contact 911 from an available <br /> telephone, the SSO or Project Manager who in turn will notify the DRMS Representative. <br /> After spill response activities are completed, a Spill Report will be issued. This spill <br /> report will identify the cause and extent of the spill, any resulting contamination danger, <br /> and the corrective actions taken by McCollum's Excavating and emergency personnel. <br /> Spill Control Equipment. The following equipment will be kept at the site at all times to <br /> provide for the means to clean up an unexpected spill or discharge: <br /> • Sand, clean fill, or other noncombustible absorbent; <br /> • 55 gallon U.S. DOT IAl and IA2 steel drums; <br /> • Shovels. <br /> Spill Control Response. If a spill occurs at the site, the following actions will be <br /> immediately taken: <br /> • Notify Emergency Services; <br /> • Isolate and contain the hazardous spill and control access to the area; <br /> • Do not allow anyone to touch or approach the spilled material without wearing the <br /> appropriate PPE; <br /> • Direct personnel to stay upwind of the spill and to keep out of low areas; <br /> BEC Mine Closure Project August 8, 2022 <br />
