Examples include but are not limited to: (vi) Approving interim and final site restoration <br /> measures. <br /> This category is applicable for this project because this is a final site restoration measure, will be <br /> completed within I month of start, and will not include any road construction or repair. <br /> Compliance with other laws is documented and can be found in the project file, including: NFMA, ESA, <br /> NHPA, CWA, CAA, and various EOs <br /> Project Actions <br /> Safeguard Shaft <br /> The mine is located north of Durango on USFS land.The site is accessed from Highway#550 on the Lime <br /> Creek Trail.The trail receives frequent use by hikers.The site contains an open shaft with the <br /> dimensions of(4')four feet by (7') six feet with a depth of(30')thirty feet. Currently,there is no barrier <br /> to public access i.e.fence, around the shaft and there is evidence of visitation to the site. <br /> The proposed work includes installing seven cubic yards (7 CYs) of polyurethane foam (PUF) and then <br /> backfilling the portal by hand with onsite material. Approximately one cubic yard (ICY) of material will <br /> be disturbed to backfill the opening.The work will be completed in accordance with PUF in accordance <br /> Specification 9.0, of the General Bid Specifications, 2009. <br /> Surface disturbance of the area will be minimal as we are using PUF to safeguard the opening. No trees <br /> will be removed to complete the closure. All disturbed areas will be seeded and revegetated according <br /> to the Revegetation Specification 20.0, of the General Bid Specifications, 2009. Access to the site will be <br /> limited to foot traffic and pack horses. <br /> Trash and Debris Removal <br /> Mining equipment and debris remain on site. Of particular concern is a large battery that is exposed to <br /> the elements, propane tanks and generators.The contractor will remove all debris and equipment, as <br /> specified by the Project Manager, using pack horses. Equipment and debris will be disposed of in an <br /> authorized waste disposal facility.The metal headframe and other metal items will be dismantled and <br /> repurposed to create a bottom form for the PUF plug. <br /> Project Dates <br /> The work will be completed in the fall of 2022. State of Colorado DRMS will implement the project. <br /> Agencies, Organizations and Persons Contacted <br /> This project was listed on the on-line SJNF Schedule of Proposed Actions. No public comment was <br /> received. The State of Colorado DRMS is the implementer of this project and has been involved in its <br /> development. <br /> Implementation Date <br /> I intend to authorize the action as soon as this Decision Memo is signed. <br /> 2 <br />
