Exhibit D - MINING PLAN
The Edmundson Clay Mine is located in The Dakota Sandstone and Purgatoire Formation of the lower
Cretaceous, with buff sandstone and buff conglomeratic sandstone and dark-gray shale.
EXISTING MINING PLAN
The operation will be extraction only with no on-site processing. It will be a comparatively low volume
operation with clay extraction projected to be in the 5,000-10,000 tons per year range.
As provided in Rule 1.6—Cessation and Termination,Section 1.62, the applicant hereby states that the
affected lands could be used less than 180 days per year. This is not to be construed by the Board as a
cessation of operation.
The clay deposit ranges from 4' to 12' in thickness and is overlain by sandstone caprock ranging in depth
from 3'to 6'. The caprock overburden will either be ripped or shot and then dozed to the pit
perimeters. Topsoil is virtually non-existent on the caprock except for occasional pockets which will be
segregated and stockpiled for replacement in reclamation. The applicant will commit to grading topsoil
stockpiles no steeper then 3H:1V slopes and seeding with a perennial cover crop to preserve the
integrity of the topsoil.
The proven clay lies roughly in 2 parallel fingers separated by a small swale and running from northwest
to southeast. Extraction will begin on the eastern finger and proceed from northwest to southeast. The
caprock will be removed from the surface with a dozer. The clay deposit will be extracted by front-end
loader and loaded in haul trucks for transport to the applicant's processing plant in Pueblo.
No haul roads will be constructed. Access to the mine is over existing ranch roads.
Projected life of the proven deposit is estimated at 15 years.
PROPOSED CHANGES
The proven deposit of clay has been exhausted and no additional mining or extraction of material is
planned to take place at this site. The site is under final reclamation.
5
SUMMIT BRICK AND TILE COMPANY- EDMUNDSON CLAY MINE NOVEMBER 2023
