Exhibit H-2
Table 5. Raptor species that may potentially nest and forage in the project area.
F--common Name Scientific Name Status*
Cooper's Hawk Acci iter coo erii No
Ferruginous Hawk Buteo re alis Sc
Golden Eagle Aquila chrysaetos Yes
Great Horned Owl Bubo vir inianus No
Northern Goshawk Acci iter gentilis No
Prairie Falcon Falco mexicanus Yes
Red-tailed Hawk Buteo 'amaicensis No
Sharp-shinned Hawk Acci iter striatus I No
*ST=State Threatened, SC=State Species of Concern,BCC=Bird of Conservation Concern
3.4 Migratory Birds
In addition to the raptors discussed above, migratory birds may nest and forage within the desert
shrublands within the parcel boundaries.Due to the lack of suitable woodland and shrubland habitat
within the parcel boundaries,no species indicated as Birds of Conservation Concern(BCC)by the
USFWS have potential to nest within the project area(USFWS 2021).
3.5 Mule Deer
The project area is located within CPW overall range for mule deer(CPW 2023b).There are no sensitive
winter habitats(i.e. severe winter range, winter concentration areas)within parcel boundaries. Mule deer
severe winter range and a winter concentration area occurs approximately 0.37 miles south of the
Gunnison River from the project area(Figure 4).
3.6 Pronghorn
There are no pronghorn mapped habitat areas within the parcel boundaries(CPW 2023b). The nearest
pronghorn overall range and winter range is located 1.5 miles east of the project area.
3.7 Black Bear and Mountain Lion
The project area is mapped as black bear(Ursus americanus) and mountain lion(Puma concolor)overall
ranges. No other mapped habitat occurs within the parcel boundaries for these two species. Foraging
habitat for black bear is limited due to the lack of suitable shrubs that produce berries and mast in the fall.
No oakbrush or other fruit bearing trees and shrubs occur on the property. Mountain lion may pass
through the project area in search of food. This area has not been mapped as a mountain lion human
conflict area by CPW.
3.8 Small Mammals
Suitable habitat is present within the proposed project for small mammals including(but not limited to):
coyote(Canis latrans),red fox(Vulpes vulpes),bobcat(Lynx rufus),American badger(Taxidea taxus),
white-tailed prairie dog(Cynomys leucurus), and desert cottontail, (Sylvilagus audubonii)(Fitzgerald et
al. 2011). Other small rodent species likely occur within the parcel boundaries in addition to those listed
above.
3.9 Reptiles
The project area provides suitable habitat for a variety of reptile species that are common to western
Colorado. Plateau lizard(Sceloporus undulatus), sagebrush lizard(Sceloporus graciosus),bullsnake
WestWater Engineering Page 6 of 14 September 2023
