Exhibit H-2
Table 3.Federally Listed Threatened,Endangered, and Candidate Species in Eagle County,
Colorado and their status in the Project Area
Common Scientific Potential Habitat in
Name Name Status Habitat Association project Area
INSECTS
Monarchs occur in
rangelands,farms,riparian
areas,deserts,prairies,
meadows, and roadsides
Monarch Danaus where milkweed is available. May occur in project
butterfly plexippus C Monarchs rely on milkweed area.
plants to lay their eggs and
feed the larvae upon
hatching. Monarchs occur
throughout the western U.S.
including Colorado.
Occurs in wet meadows
supported by springs,seeps,
streams, or irrigated areas Unlikely to occur within
S e eria that contain the bog violet parcel boundaries.
p Y host plant for eggs and
Silverspot nokomis PT Habitat requirements are
nokomis larvae and other herbaceous not met within project
vegetation for cover and
food resources. Colony area.
known to occur in Unaweep
Canyon in Mesa County.
The monarch butterfly is currently a candidate species for listing under the Endangered Species Act
(ESA). The USFWS announced in December of 2020 that the species warrants listing but has been
precluded by higher priority actions at this time(USFWS 2020). Monarch butterflies occur throughout
North America along a variety of habitats including rangelands, farms, riparian areas, deserts, prairies,
meadows, open forests, woodlands, gardens, and roadsides where milkweed grows(Jepsen,et al.2015).
3.2 Colorado State Listed Threatened, Endangered, and Special Concern Wildlife Species
(Excluding raptors)
The Colorado-listed wildlife species were reviewed to determine their status in the project area(Table 4)
(CPW 2023a).Literature reviews of species occurrence in the project area included BCC habitat and
nesting records as described in the Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas(Wickersham 2016) and Colorado Birds
(Andrews and Righter 1992),references in Mammals of Colorado(Fitzgerald et al.2011),and references
in Amphibians and Reptiles in Colorado (Hammerson 1999). The results of an analysis of the habitat
suitability for each of the species that may potentially occur in the project area is presented in Table 4
along with rationale for the findings. Species that are also Federally listed or candidate species were
included in Table 3.
WestWater Engineering Page 4 of 14 September 2023
