The drainage from the South London Stockpile is not toxic, or
acidic. Rather the flow of water entering the workings around the American Shaft is flow of water through
portions of the underground mine that are primarily in the historic mine workings into the pyritic porphyry
system, causing leaching of zinc to occur within the upper Mine workings. Removal of the waste from the
American Mine parcel, and diversion of water away from the Shaft area, will reduce the flow of water to
the Water Raise and reduce loading in the Water Tunnel.
The rock contains heavy metals.Sorting test work using silver as a tie element for mass balance purposes
demonstrates that the sorter will remove about 80%of the heavy metals, resulting in an inert waste
product 11x lower in concentration than the removed ore product.
Mineralogical inspection of the waste demonstrates removal of sulfides from the whole rock into the
product, corroborated by gold/silver concentration ratio of about 11x into the product along with
copper/lead/zinc.
