RARE PLANT & WILDLIFE
SURVEY REPORT
SLICK ROCK URANIUM MINE
San Miguel County, Colorado
revision date: September 1, 2023
Summary
A rare plant and wildlife survey was conducted within the proposed 1,600-acre Slick Rock
Uranium Mine located in Disappointment Valley, San Miguel County, Colorado. Field
reconnaissance in 2023 confirmed the lack of habitat for federally listed, proposed, or
candidate wildlife and plant species. Therefore, the project will not require consultation with
the USFWS. In addition, no BLM or CPW listed wildlife species were noted during
comprehensive field reconnaissance during the pedestrian surveys. However, the survey did
result in the identification of one new occurrence of Naturita Milkvetch (Astragalus
naturitensis), a BLM Sensitive Species previously known from the area. However, the
proposed project disturbances as currently proposed will not affect this plant.
Should ground disturbing activities be proposed outside of the existing botanical survey area,
then additional rare plant surveys for the Naturita milkvetch and the Gypsum Valley Cateye
should be conducted in spring, prior to June is'. In addition, it is also recommended that
ground disturbing activities commence after the migratory bird nesting season, generally
after August 15. If ground disturbance is expected to occur between April 1 and August 15,
then a migratory bird nest clearance survey should be conducted prior to the ground
disturbing activities by a qualified biologist during the same season the disturbance is to
occur.
Acknowledgement
The author gratefully acknowledges the support of the following individuals:
Jerry Powell, Certified Wildlife Biologist Alicia Langton, Botanist
Wildlife Specialties LLC EcoloGIS
jerry.powell@wildlifespecialtiesllc.com Grand Junction, Colorado
Lyons, Colorado alicia.langton@gmail.com
