STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PLAN MORRISON QUARRY
REVISION NO.8 1 August 2022 CERTIFICATION NO.COG500320
Material is also stockpiled in the middle of the quarry and is processed for riprap.
Stormwater from this area would travel down the haul road and discharge at Outfall
003 or Outfall 005.
Potential pollutants associated with the aggregate stockpile area included
suspended solids from sand and gravel. The potential for pollutants to enter
stormwater is low since water that may come into contact with the stockpiles typically
stays onsite and slowly infiltrates into the ground or evaporates. Should stormwater
discharge, check dams are located along the haul road to act as a BMP before the
water discharges.
3.1.3 MATERIAL STORAGE AREA
The material storage area is located inside the shop, and inside a storage trailer next
to the shop. Drums of various grease and oil are stored inside the inside the shop or
storage trailer on spill pallets to prevent drips or leaks from accumulating on the floor.
The shop utilizes a parts washer and conducts maintenance on equipment.
Miscellaneous parts are stored inside the shop. The shop has a concrete floor. The
outside surface of this area is comprised of gravel.
Potential pollutants associated with the material storage area include fuels, oils and
antifreeze. The potential for pollutants to enter stormwater is low since materials are
stored inside containment, inside the plant or inside a trailer. Any spill of petroleum
products would be immediately stopped and cleaned up per the spill response
procedures in the facility's Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan.
3.1.4 VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND FUEL STORAGE AREA
Vehicle maintenance is completed onsite near the fuel storage area. Any small
amounts of used oil generated from vehicles is kept in a used oil tank inside
containment and emptied by a used oil recycling vendor. The vehicle fueling is
routinely inspected for spills and leaks as required in the facility's SPCC Plan. Spill kits
are available onsite for any spills that may occur. The facility procedures for fueling
are included in training guidance and are reviewed in the annual training classes.
The fuel storage area at this facility includes a 10,000 gallon off-road diesel tank, a 500
gallon on-road diesel tank, a 500 gallon gasoline tank, a 2,000 gallon used oil tank,
three 400 gallon motor oil tanks, a 400 gallon antifreeze tank, and a few 55 gallon
grease drums.
The diesel, gasoline and used oil tanks are inside a covered concrete containment
area. The motor oil tanks, antifreeze tank and grease drums are located inside an
epoxy lined storage shed. Any spills from drums would be contained onsite. The
potential to contribute pollutants to stormwater in the fuel storage areas is low due to
14
