5.6 Anticipated typical blast design <br /> <br />For the blast design, Holcim will use the current blast design in Bear Creek Quarry, the Geology of Red <br />Creek, and the Red Creek Geotechnical Assessment. <br /> <br /> <br />Figure 4. Stratigraphic Column <br /> <br />5.6.1 Blast purpose <br />Limestone (Fort Hays, Translime) fragmentation is expected a less than four feet in size, and overburden <br />(Smokey Hill and Golden Shale) less than five feet in size. See figure 4 <br /> <br />5.6.2 Number, spacing, diameter and depth of holes <br />For the standard blast design for Limestone and overburden, the results are: <br /> <br />Fort Hays and Translime: <br />Number of holes: 50 <br />Burden: 16 ft. <br />Spacing: 19.7 ft. <br />Diameter: 5.5 inches <br />Depth of the holes: 48.2 ft. <br /> <br />Smokey Hill and Golden Shale <br />Number of holes: 50 <br />Burden: 16 ft. <br />Spacing: 20.1 ft. <br />Diameter: 5.5 inches <br />Depth of the holes: 48.9 ft. <br /> <br />See Appendix 2.
