(GSB) is in receipt of the inspection report for the Navajo Mine dated May 3,
2023. The inspection report cites 3 problems:
Problem 1 General Compliance With Mine Plan
The current mining plan needs to be updated and clarified pursuant to C.R.S. 34-32.5-112(1)(c)(VI)
and Rule 6.4.4. The operator must provide sufficient information to describe or identify how the operator
intends to conduct the operation. Specifically, the mining plan reeds to be updated to describe the
stormwater management plan for the site, including all water diversions and impoundments. This
revision must also include an updated mining plan map that meets the requirements of Rules 6.2.1(2)
and 6.4.3. All stormwater management structures must be shown on the updated map.
Exhibit D Mining Plan Changes
(a) :lining :'athods
TR-1 changed the mining direction. General Shale has installed a perimeter berm and
ditch around the crest of the highvvall to prevent surface water from entering the pit and to divert
stormwater flows around the pit. Where grades are steep enough to cause erosion and head
cuts, check dams will be installed to minimize erosion. This configuration will follow the life of
the mane as manar,g progresses east.
The clay stockpile pad area has been graded to flow to the south and west with berms along the
perimeter of the clay stockpile pad area to direct stormwater flows. A stormwater erosion
livestock pond was bui►t to capture stormwater flows fro►►► the clay stockpile pau area. in 2023
the Division of Water Resources approved clay stockpile pad area stormwater pond as a
livestock and erosion pond.
(d)a is size of ar ea(s) to u -worked at any one time.
No Change
(e) An approximate timetable to describe the mining operation.
