Introduction <br /> This document is the decision package prepared by the Colorado Division of Reclamation,Mining <br /> and Safety (the Division) for the New Horizon Mine. This document includes: 1)the proposed <br /> decision to approve the renewal application; 2) a summary which includes a history of the review <br /> of the permit application, a description of the environment affected by the operation, and a <br /> description of the mining and reclamation plan; and 3)the written findings of compliance the <br /> Division has made as required by the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. Detailed <br /> information concerning the findings of compliance can be found in the Regulations of the Colorado <br /> Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining. <br /> The Division has received an application for a renewal to a permit to conduct surface coal mining <br /> and reclamation operations at the New Horizon Mine (NHM). The application was submitted by <br /> Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation, LLC (ERMR). The mine will be operated by ERMR. The <br /> NHM ceased coal extraction in 2013 and will be conducting reclamation activities during the next <br /> permit term. The mine is located in Montrose County, 1.7 miles northwest of the Town of Nucla. <br /> The mine area is located in the USGS 7.5 minute Nucla Quadrangle map. <br /> All or portions of the following: <br /> Sec 6 T46N, R15W: W '/2NE'/4; W '/z SW '/4NE'/4;NW '/4; <br /> N '/z NE'/4 SW '/4;N'/z SE'/4;N'/z SE'/4 SE'/4 <br /> Sec 31 T47N, R15W: SW '/4 <br /> Sec 1 T46N, R16W: N '/2 NE'/4 NE'/4; NW '/4 NE'/4; NW '/4 SE'/4 NE'/4; <br /> NE'/4 NW '/4;N'/2 SE'/4 NW '/4 <br /> Sec 36T47N, R16W: SW '/4; SE'/4 <br /> Sec 25 T47N,R16W: SW '/4 <br /> The total permit acreage for the New Horizon Mine area is 342.25 acres. <br /> 3 <br />
