All review and comment periods as provided in the <br />Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br /> <br />New Elk Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue underground coal mining and/or reclamation <br />operations on land located approximately 25 miles West of Trinidad, Colorado. The permit area is <br />further described as follows: <br /> <br />Township 33 South, Range 68 West, in sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27. A reclaimed <br />vent shaft is located in Township 33 South, Range 67 West, in Section 19. These sections can be <br />located on the USGS 7.5 minute Vigil and Weston quadrangle maps. The Jansen Loadout is also <br />part of Permit C-1981-012 and is approximately 2 miles west of Trinidad, Colorado in Township 33 <br />South, Range 64 West, in sections 22 and 27. These sections can be located on the USGS 7.5 minute <br />Trinidad quadrangle map. <br /> <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the following USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle <br />map(s): Vigil, Weston, Trinidad. <br /> <br />New Elk Coal Company is requesting to renew permit C-1981-012 for another five year permit term. <br /> <br />This renewal application does not propose revisions to the approved mining and reclamation plan, <br />nor is there any proposed surface disturbance outside of the currently approved disturbance area. <br /> <br />A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Clerk <br />and Recorder, 200 East First Street, Room 205, Trinidad, CO 81082.
