Light -Use Roads
The location of light -use roads will be determined on the basis of the progress of the mining
operation and specific design and environmental considerations. Typical light -use roads will be
roads of recent construction in the pit areas for blasting and maintenance, exploration roads, and
reclamation access roads. Light -use roads, whether in the pit or other areas, will be constructed
using the best technology currently available, to the extent possible, to avoid damage to fish,
wildlife, and related environmental values and to prevent additional contribution of suspended
solids to runoff outside the permit area. Roads in the pit areas will be constructed on an already
disturbed material. Reclamation access roads and environmental monitoring roads will be
restored immediately after they are no longer needed. All light -use roads will be completely
removed, regraded, and revegetated when they are no longer needed for operations, reclamation
or monitoring. The light -use roads will be used by pick-ups, light-duty service trucks, track -
mounted overburden drilling rigs and tractors. The location of the light -use roads will be
determined largely by the immediate need of the mining operations. They will not be located in
the channel of any major drainage unless specifically approved by the Division.
Light -use road construction will generally require no topsoil removal. Roads in pit and
disturbance areas will already have been pre -stripped of topsoil for mining. A light use road to
access Pond NH1-001 stretches from the south side of AA Road southward along the west side
of NHN owned property. The road will be maintained at a width of 12 feet wide. The road will
be gravel surfaced and used to access Pond NH1-001 and a surface water line running along the
road. A pre -mine roadway exists along this path, so no further excavation will be needed, only
graveling.
County Roads
Mining and reclamation activities will be conducted within 100 feet of the outside right-of-way
of current public roads. However, when blasting or any other mining activities which could
create a potential safety hazard are occurring, public access will be prevented and traffic will
bypass the specific work area while such activity is being conducted. These activities will be
sequenced in a manner to allow public travel through the area on other public roads in the
immediate vicinity.
Section 2.05.3(3) Page 12 March 2018 (TR -16)
