Site number 5MF2427

In the winter of 1986, Trapper Mine personnel found a possible historical site in the NE 1/4, NW 1/4, Section
3, T5N, R91W. The site 5MF2427, is an old homestead consisting of a complex of three building locations,
two wells, a retaining wall, leveled areas, a dump, trace roads, etc. Nickens and Associates were contracted
to evaluate the site in May, 1987 (App. K, Part XII). Based on the survey results, the State Historic
Preservation Officer concluded that the site did not qualify for the National Register.

Site number 5MF.5138.10

During new cultural resources surveys conducted during the spring of 2023 by Grand River Instittute, a
portion of the historic State Highway 13 corridor in the NE corner of Section 32, T6N, R91W, was
documented. The entirety of the old highway corridor is recorded as site 5MF.5138.10 from the Wyoming
state line to Rifle, CO. The segment within the 2023 survey area is approximately 300 meters in length and
adjoins further portions of this linear feature at the terminus of County Road 107S which occupies the same
historic road alignment. Overall the entire feature is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places,
however this segment has been previously disturbed and reclaimed during past operations and has been
significantly altered from its original condition. Due to these changes to the site no further work was
recommended by the cultural survey team and future disturbance was considered to have no adverse effect
on the site (App. K, Part XXI).

Additional surveys were conducted within and outside of the Trapper Mine amended permit boundary in
2013, 2014, 2020 and 2023. Within the area of the Trapper Mine permit boundary no additional historic or
cultural sites were determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. A complete
listing of the findings of the 2013, 2014, 2020 and 2023 surveys and additional data gathering in 2015 is
contained in Appendix K, Parts XIII thru XXI.

2-591c
