Assessment of Field Variability(Field Duplicate or Co-located Samples)
Blind duplicate composite soil samples will be collected — approximately I blind duplicate sample per 20
stockpile composite samples collected. Blind duplicate samples will be assigned their own sample number so
the sample is "blind" to the laboratory. The actual sample location will be documented in the Field Notes.
Field Variances
As conditions in the field may vary, minor modifications to the sampling program may be required. When
appropriate, the Project Manager and QA Officer will be notified, and a verbal approval will be obtained before
implementing the changes. In this instance, an email will also be sent to the DRMS contact for the project,
documenting the change. Modifications to the approved Plan will be documented in the sampling project report.
Field Health and Safety Procedures
Specialized training, in the form of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response worker training, is
required for all Pinyon field personnel, either conducting or overseeing the field sampling activities. Pinyon
staff maintain up to date annual refresher training, as is required by the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration. A project specific Safety and Health Plan will be prepared for all Pinyon staff once the Plan is
approved and a field schedule has been established.
College level education with an appropriate degree and field of study are very important, and on the job training
can also be critical. Pinyon field staff include Environmental Scientists, Geologists, Hydrogeologists, and
Engineers that each have an appropriate education and field experienced to make good and consistent field
decisions and follow appropriate SOPS.
This concludes the proposed Stockpile Sampling Plan. Please let us know if you have questions or comments,
or if Pinyon can initiate scheduling of the stockpile sampling program described herein.
Sincerely,
4,, Oev6n
Pinyon Environmental, Inc.
Darin Worden
Senior Hydrologist
cc: Scott Clark, Burns, Figa&Will, P.C.
Charles Kellerman, Butala
Mr. Lucas West Page 12
Environmental Protection Specialist
