Bowie No. 1 West Mine
a. Total vegetation ground cover will be equal to or exceed 54 percent.
b. Total above-ground herbaceous production will be equal to or exceed 405 pounds
per acre.
C. Woody plant density is same as East Mine.
d. Species diversity is same as East Mine.
Loadout Facility
Originally, this facility was to be reclaimed back to orchard lands, specifically to apples,
peaches, and some cherries. However, the currently approved plan is to reclaim the
disturbed area to cropland. As such, the area will be evaluated for herbaceous production
only when determining revegetation success, as detailed in Volume 7 of the PAP.
Revegetation efforts at the loadout will be considered successful when production sampling
data from the loadout area indicates that production is not less than 90 percent of the Barnes
Property reference area sampling with 90 percent statistical confidence.
The operation is found to be in compliance with the requirement of this section.
XIL Post-mining Land Use - Rule 4.16
The discussion of land use may be found in Volume 1 of the PAP under Section 2.04.3 and
Section 2.05.5. A land use appendix is located in Volume 9, including Map No. 9-1, Land
Use Information Map.
The Division hereby approves the post-mining land uses of the operation. It was
determined that grazing for both livestock and wildlife for the Bowie No. 1 West Mine and
the bench areas at the Bowie No. 1 Mine meet the requirements of the rules (Rules 4.16
and 2.07.6(2)(1)). Also, cropland use for the storage silos, truck dump, train loadout areas,
and the railroad spur meet the requirements of these rules.
XIII. Protection of Fish, Wildlife and Related Environmental Values - Rule 4.18
The fish and wildlife resources sections of the application can be found in Section 2.04 of
Volume 1, and in the Wildlife Appendix, Volume 9A of the PAP. The Fish and Wildlife
Mitigation Plan can be found in Section 2.05 of Volume 1 of the PAP.
The general area contains important winter range for both elk and deer, and over 10,000
hunter days per year are spent in this area. Golden eagles have been observed near the
mine site, but no threatened or endangered wildlife species have been observed. The North
Fork of the Gunnison River contains 12 species of fish, including three species of game
35
