This letter is in response to the Division's adequacy review letter
posted to us on 7 July 2023.
Table E-1 Reclamation Quantities has been revised to include the amount of fill that has
already been imported to the site. Further, we have averaged the previous 10-years for
imported fill for a conservative estimate of what we expect to be a continuing trend.
Using this data we estimate that we will reduce the total amount of imported fill needed
at the end of the project by 69.8%. In addition, should this trend of imported fill come to
an end we would then have a stockpile of fill material that could be used elsewhere in
the mine. In this scenario we would request another Technical Revision to return this
area to the originally planned pond.
Phase 2 is currently in the process of being backfilled. The material is being imported
on a daily basis at no cost to the mine. The area is being backfilled as the material
arrives.
At the end of the life of the mine there may still be a need for a small amount of
imported fill. However, that final amount has drastically changed either by the amount
of fill stockpiled in what was originally the Phase 2 pond or by continuing the trend of
imported fill from other contractors in our area.
