SITE DESCRIPTION EXHIBIT B
SOILS INFORMATION
The following information was obtained from the basic soils
and vegetation information found thru the USDA' s National Soils
information page and the Soil Survey of Baca County. The follow-
ing soil information is made part of this application. Soil
units are shown on the USDA map, reproduced on page 5 following
this text . The photo map shows the surrounding vegetation
features and soil types . This site lies on a south facing hill
side covered with a terrace deposit of gravel on the north edge
of the drainages that fall into Oklahoma in the southwest part of
Baca County. The top six inches in this site is more sand then
loam but when the vegetation is stripped it will be usable as
growth medium. It will be salvaged and stored along the mines
perimeter for use when reclamation begins . There are two soils
types found on the mine site.
The VoC -Vona sandy loam, 3 to 6%slopes soil series covers
approximately 5 . 3 acres or 54 . 6% of the mine area. The general
soils description indicates that the Vona series consists of very
deep excessively drained soil (2 to 6" per hr) sandy loam that
formed in eolian or partially wind reworked alluvial materials .
The upper most horizon is a 0 to 6 inches or an average of 3
inches of a sandy loam, or light brownish grey, fine grained soil
usable as topsoil . The upper 6 inches, while not considered
topsoil as such, will be retained for resoiling the site.
Underlying the topsoil is a 2 to 6 feet lens of sandy loam and
then the sandy gravel underlaying that has an unknown depth but
in the adjoining old mine the upper 40 feet was removed. All of
the material is usable but the top 6 inches will be saved for
reclamation.
The Vr2 -Vona soils, warm, 0 to 5% slopes, eroded soil series covers
approximately 4 . 4 acres or 45 . 4% of the mine area. This soil is
the same as for the Vona Sandy Loam only on a flatter slope, with
the exceptions that the top most layer of soil varies from 0 to 3
inches and as noted above is not really topsoil but rather a
vegetation covered sand.
W.F.
