ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL REVISION NARRATIVE
As described in the Mining Plan of Amendment#3 for the Fox#1 Clay Mine, as
approved on March 21, 2018, the mine contains several different types and colors of clay. These
include both plastic clays and flint clays. The depth of overburden as well as the type, amount,
and color of clay in each area of the mine is not fully known until mining commences in that area
of the mine.
The flint clay reserves have been exhausted in Area A of the mine, while the plastic clay
reserves have yet to be exhausted in this part of the mine. As such, the permit is being revised
through a technical revision to increase the allowable disturbed acreage to a maximum of 60.0
acres at any one time. This is so that a new area of flint clay reserves can be exposed and mined
in Area B, while the remaining reserves of plastic clays still in Area A can also be mined.
Additionally, the permit is being revised through a technical revision to increase the maximum
allowable linear feet of highwall to 4,500 l.f. This is in order to accommodate needing to expose
and mine different clay types and colors from different areas of the mine. Finally, the new flint
clay reserves in Area B are located where sandstone overburden is up to 45' thick. The permit is
being revised through a technical revision to allow mining in areas where the sandstone is
between 0 to 45 feet thick.
Any increase in required financial warranty will be submitted in accordance with permit
requirements. All other sections and requirements of the Mining Plan and Reclamation Plan are
to remain unchanged.
