• Land Condition Capability and Productivity
The land contained within the permit area has been used for the production of apples and
pears and for other agricultural purposes. The productivity of the land is directly
proportional to the amount of soil resources available and the amount of irrigation water
available for flood irrigation the area. Without irrigation water from the North Fork of
the Gunnison River and a water distribution system, the productivity of the land would be
very low. At one time TCC used approximately seven (7) of the 20 acres within the
pern~it area as an orchard and for agricultural production. TCC no longer uses the
undisturbed portion of the permit area for this purpose. Only 13.6 acres of the permit
area will be disturbed.
Hydrologic Ca ability
• Limited surface water supplies are present in the permit and adjacent area. In fact, little
or no surface water flow results from precipitation on the area. No intermittent or
perennial streams are found within the permit area or the immediate adjacent area. All
runoff from the area flow towards the North Fork of the Gunnison River approximately
1500 feet south of the permit area. As reviewed in the geologic section, the location of
the permit area is on colluvial material significantly above the elevation of the North Fork
of the Gunnison River which directly affects the amount of groundwater found at the site.
In fact, no groundwater is thought to be present in the colluvial material above the
elevation of the North Fork of the Gunnison River. Domestic wells in the area penetrate
the alluvial material found at the base of the river valley for their water supply. Only
minor amounts of groundwater can be expected above the piezometric surface, which
coincides with the North Fork of the Gunnison River. Operations at the Terror Creek
facility will not intersect any groundwater within the colluvial material due to limited
excavation planned for the permit area.
• 2.04 -3R
Rev. 6- I ~-93
Permit Renewal 3
/OR-17
