2.04.3 General Requirements: Site Description and Land Use Information
•
The location of the area within the permit area and adjacent areas for
the TCC loadout facility can be found on the Pre-Disturbance and
Post-Disturbance Land Use Map (Map 4). TCC purchased this land from a
local resident of the Bowie, Colorado area. The use of the land was to
provide supplemental income as an orchard or agricultural land for these
individuals. During their residence at this property, the primary
source of income was through employment with one of the local mining
companies. The use of this area as an orchard and for other
agricultural purposes was merely to supplement their income. As shown
on the Pre-Disturbance and Post-Disturbance Land Use Map (Map 4), all of
the area within the permit and disturbed area of the TCC coal handling
facilities is on irrigated cropland. As is normally the case in this
part of Colorado, all sites with reasonably good availability of soil
resources and water resources and which is relatively flat, is used for
agricultural purposes to support land uses like livestock raising and
• production of food for either human consumption or for consumption by
k
TCC
xi
t th
li
t
tili
th
b
ildi
d f
iliti
ti
.
ves
oc
u
zes
e e
s
ngs an
es a
ng
u
ac
e
property as offices and storage for its operation. These existing
buildings will be left following completion of coal processing
activities providing there is still a beneficial use for them. The
structures which will remain at final reclamation are shown on the
Post-Disturbance Topography (Map 10).
The nearest community to the disturbed permit area is Paonia, Colorado,
approximately 3} miles to the southwest. The old original townsite of
Bowie, Colorado, is located adjacent to the permit area. With the
exception of local residents, the townsite of Bowie has been abandoned.
As shown on the Pre-Disturbance and Post-Disturbance Land Use Map (Map
4), all areas which are not used for agricultural purposes are shown as
undeveloped land. Due to the rough topography and lack of rainfall,
little vegetation and soil resources are available on these areas for
• productive uses. Primarily, the adjacent lands have been used for
2.04-2R Revised - February, 1988
