2.04.9 Soil Resource Information
• Soils found in the permit area are delineated on the Soils Map (Map 3).
Site specific soil work has been completed by the United States
Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service ("SCS"), on the
permit and adjacent area. The mapping intensity utilized by the SCS was
the Order 2 sampling intensity.
TCC plans only to disturb that small area required by the facilities.
During the summer of 1982, two soil samples were taken from the topsoil
of the facilities area. These soil samples were visually logged in the
field. The samples were saved and tested by Bookcliffs Commercial
Laboratories in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, for chemical and physical
analysis. The holes sampled in the summer of 1982 were also used to
determine soil thicknesses. Two additional soil samples were taken in
March of 1983 in the area to be utilized for the haulage road. These
samples were visually logged in the field. The samples have been sent
• for testing to Bookcliffs Commercial Laboratories in Steamboat Springs,
Colorado for physical and chemical analysis. The chemical and physical
parameters of the soil material at the facilities area are shown in
Exhibit 7, Soils Information. Locations of the soil sample locations
are shown on the Soils Map (Map 3). The soil mapping units which are
present in the permit area consist of number 62, Progresso Loam, which
is found on slopes of 6 to 12% and Number 74, Torriorthents-Haplargids.
The SCS soil series description is found in Exhibit 7, Soils
Information. Review of the soils analyses indicates that no problems
are expected with use of this soil material during reclamation
activities. The soil samples which have been taken at the site indicate
that approximately 12 inches of topsoil material is available for
salvaging over the facilities area and approximately six to eight inches
in the haul road area. Details of the topsoil handling plan are set
forth in Section 2.05.3 of this application.
No overburden materials will be substituted for topsoil nor will topsoil
. be supplemented with such materials. All existing areas within the
permit area requiring topsoil removal have adequate topsoil to comply
with the reclamation requirements.
2.04-13
