Part VIII of Appendix K). The archaeological site descriptions and recommendations as recorded by
Archaeological Services are as follows.
Site number 5MF945:
SW/NW/SW/SE Sec.29-T6N-R91W(UTM: #A, 13,277160 mE,4480120 mN. #B 13,277120 mE,4480100
mN. #C, 13,277170 mE, 4480080 mN. #D, 13,277160 mE, 4480100 mN). A lithic scatter with a
concentration of primary and secondary flakes (suggesting a possible tool manufacturing location), a
grinding tool(mano)fragment, and several fire-cracked rock fragments were recorded. Evidence most likely
indicates a campsite of temporary nature. The site does not appear to be eligible for the National Register.
No further work is recommended.
Site number 5MF946:
CNV-1/2/SE/SW/NW Sec. 34-T6N-R91W. (UTM: #A, 13,279800 mE, 4479150 mN. #13, 13,279780 mE,
4479130 mN. #C, 13,279800 mE, 4479120 mN. #D, 13,279820 mE, 4479130 mN). A lithic scatter was
found on a small sandstone outcropping above an intermittent stream. Retouched flakes, one side-notched
base, one obsidian flake, and one corner-notched base were found within a concentration of chalcedony
flakes. This site was completely surface collected, gridded and shovel tested, at the instructions of the
Principal Investigator. No further work is recommended.
Site number 5MF947:
-SE/NE/SW/NW of Sec. 34-T6N-R91W. (UTM: 13,279900 mE, 4479200mN).A lithic scatter is located on a
knoll between two minor streams, and adjacent to a large intermittent stream drainage. This site was
completely surface collected, gridded and shovel tested by order of the Principal Investigator. No further
work is recommended.
Site number 5MF948:
NW/SE/SW/SE of Sec. 5-T5N-R90W. (UTM 13,286797 mE, 4476297 mN). [Note: Location given in
Appendix K, Part Vlll is incorrect.] A pictograph and petroglyph site is located on the sandstone wall of a
cliff on the south side of the Williams Fork Mountains. The drainage culminates at the Williams Fork River.
Extensive color photographs were taken of this site in order to show the contrast of red and yellow ocher.
This site will be recommended to the National Register.Avoidance is recommended. If construction activity
comes within 50 feet of the site, the site should be fenced. Site 5MF948 is located inside the permit
boundary but outside of the proposed mine plan area, therefore no disturbance of this site is anticipated.
During a 2013 re-survey by Grand River Institute, the site's original recorded location was determined to
have been incorrect(approximately 550 meters to the east-southeast of the corrected location assessed in
2013). The features of this site are determined to demonstrate association with prehistoric and native
lifeways. The potential for additional buried cultural deposits was determined by the 2013 survey to be
significant. The expansion of mining activities into the canyon in which the site is located will be minimized
and the canyon area adjacent to the site will be avoided by any surface disturbing activities.
2-590 —
,:)vision:
Approved:
