The field pH of the HI aquifer is closer to being neutral than the KLM or QR
water in the eastern portion of Trapper. Figure 2.7-281 shows a steady pH very
close to seven for HI well GP -7. This pH pattern and value is typical of water from
the HI wells.
Sulfate and bicarbonate are the major anions in the HI water in the eastern
portion of the Trapper permit. Calcium, sodium and magnesium are the three cations
with significant concentrations. Calcium concentrations are the largest of the
cations in the HI aquifer while sodium was for the KLM and QR aquifers.
Third White Sandstone Aquifer
The TDS of the Third White Sandstone aquifer is typically higher than the
• concentrations of the HI aquifer below this sandstone. The TDS of well GC -2, which
is completed in the Third White Sandstone has changed from approximately 700 mg/1 in
1975 to 1200 mg/l in 1986. This well was airlifted to produce at least two casing
volumes prior to collecting the samples in September of 1985 and 1986. The increase
could be due to a natural change with time or to non -representative samples prior to
1985. The TDS in well GP -9, which is approximately 4000 feet downgradient of well
GC -2, is similar to the values observed in well GC -2. Figure 2.7-28m shows that the
TDS has been fairly steady in well GP -9 during the last year.
Third White Sandstone well P-8 is a similar distance down -dip of the outcrop
area of the Third White Sandstone as well GP -9 is. The TDS in water from well P-8
has increased from 1100 to 1400 mg/1 between 1981 and 1986. This increase is
thought to have been caused by natural variations in water quality with time (see
2-520 j j REVISED FEB 13 '87
