Baseline sampling of the Pyeatt (S-3) and Flume (S-1) drainages were performed
during the later portion of the permit terms. Map M30B shows sampling sites labeled
S-1 and S-3. Table 2.7-18a presents analyses of baseline conditions found in the
tributaries during this term.
Figures 2.7-18a and 2.7-18b present plots of TSS from March 1985 to November
1986 for sites S-1 and S-3. As mentioned previously, TSS concentrations usually are
highest during the spring snowmelt runoff season. This holds true for the spring
season of 1985 at site S-3. At site S-1, the higher TSS values occurred from
November 1985 to May 1986. This shows that the snowmelt runoff due to the unusually
warm temperatures caused above average TSS concentrations during [he winter of 1986.
The TSS concentration for this period was between 4 mg/1 and 772 mg/1 at S-1, and
less than 2 mg/1 to 1950 mg/1 for site S-3. From Figures 2.7-18a and 2.7-18b it is
evident that the baseflow TSS concentrations for S-1 are higher than at site S-3.
Conversely, the TSS values at peak flows are higher at site S-3 than at site S-1.
The relationship between TSS and discharge shows a lot of scatter at both
sites. This is due to the samples being taken at different stages of a runoff
hydrograph and during different seasons (see Figures 2.7-18c and 2.7-18d).
TDS values at sites S-1 and S-3 shows marked seasonal variation (Figures
2.7-18e and 2.7-18f). As described previously, the enowmelt runoff seasons have
lower TDS values than during the lower runoff baseflow seasons. Both basins show
the same range of variation. In both basins, TDS is in the range of 900 mg/1 during
the snowmelt runoff of 1985 and 1400 mg/1 during the spring of 1986. The values of
TDS at site S-1 are in the range between 544 and 1756 mg/1. The concentration of
w
2-451a
~~~ FEB 13'87
