15b-Winevada clay loam, 10 to 29 percent slopes. This moderately
deep well drained soil is on ridgetops and upland sideslopes. It formed
in residuum and from colluvium and alluvium derived from fine-grained
sandstone. Slopes are plane to slightly convex. Areas are irregular
in shape and are 2 to 70 acres in size. The vegetation is mainly
shrubs, forbs and grasses. Elevation ranges from 6770 to 7700 feet.
The average annual precipitation is about 15 to 16 inches and the mean
annual air temperature is about 41°F.
Typically the surface is dark grayish brown and brown clay loam
about 38 inches thick which is underlain by a lithic contact of hard
sandstone at a depth of 38 inches.
Included in mapping are about 10 percent Rhone soils, about 5
percent Lymanson Taxadjunct soils and about 5 percent soils similar
to Winevada in all respects except that they have finer textures.
Permeability of this soil is moderate as is available water
capacity. Effective rooting depth is 38 inches. Runoff is medium
and hazard of erosion by water is slight to moderate and by wind is
slight.
This map unit is used for graziag, wildlife and watershed.
The soils of this map unit provide a fair source of topsoil to
an average depth of 38 inches. Clayey textures and firm moist
consistencies throught the profile are the major limitations,
,~
2-269
