z
29b-Owen Creek Loam, 10 to 29 percent slopes. This deep well drained
soil occurs on low rounded ridges and sideslopes. It formed in
colluvium and alluvium derived from sandstone. Slopes are plane.
Areas are irregular in shape and are 2 to 16 acres in size. The
vegetation is mainly shrubs, fortis and grasses. Elevation ranges
from 7300 to 7500 feet. The average annual precipitation is about
14 to 15 inches and the mean annual air temperature is about 41°F.
Typically the surface layer is brown loam about 12 inches thick.
The subsoil is dark yellowish brown and yellowish brown clay loam
extending to a depth of greater than 60 inches.
Included in mapping are about 10 percent Cochetopa, about 5 percent
Rhone and about 5 percent Lymanson Taxadjunct soils.
Permeability of this Owen Creek soil is moderate to moderately
slow. Available water capacity is moderate. Effective rooting depth
is greater than 60 inches. Runoff is medium and hazard of erosion
is slight by both water and wind.
This map unit is used for grazing and wildlife habitat.
The soils of this map unit provide a good to fair source of topsoil
to an average depth of 22 inches. Below this depth clayey
textures make the soils unacceptable as topdressing materials.
2-305
