i~
CUSHOOL VARIANT
The Cushool Variant consists of moderately deep well drained soils
formed from sandstone. They are located on upland sideslopes and have
elopes of 0 to 29 percent.
Cushool Variant soils are similar to Forelle soils except that
Cushool Variant soils are 20 to 40 inches deep and have fine control
section textures. They also occur near Savage, Evanston shallow Variant
~, and Rentsac moderately deep Variant soils.
Cushool soils are fine montmorillonitic Borollic Haplargids.
This soil is a variant because it has a fine control section
texture.
Typical pedon of Cushool loam, 10 percent slope is located
within 408,000N, 1,422,000E and 411,000N, 1,426,000E.
Al--0 to 2 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) loam, dark grayish brown (lOYR
4/2) moist, weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly
sticky, slightly plastic; common fine roots; few fine interstitial
pores; neutral; abrupt smooth boundary.
B2t--2 to 15 inches; yellowish brown (lOYR 5/4) clay loam, brown
(lOYR 4/3) moist; strong medium angular blocky structure; slightly
hard, firm, sticky, plastic; common very fine and fine roots; few medium
tubular pores; many moderately thick clay films on ped faces; neutral; 4__..~
clear wavy boundary.
~r
2-203
r
